Best films of the decade

I said I wasn't going to do any more lists. But this is an old one. It's my list of candidates for best film of the decade:—

The Wrestler, Knocked Up, United 93, The Incredibles, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mystic River, Catch Me if You Can, Memento, An Education, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Birth, Mulholland Drive, The Deep End, WALL-E, Milk,
Anvil! The Story of Anvil! Casino Royale, Traffic, Million Dollar Baby, The Bourne Supremacy, Sideways, Elf, Eastern Promises, You Can Count on Me, Lost in Translation, Narc, The Hurt Locker, Zodiac, The Royal Tenenbaums, Borat, Brokeback Mountain.

I'm going to try and get it down to one. Here are films that I can't quite see occupying the number one spot, for a variety of reasons: The Incredibles, Memento, Milk, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Mulholland Drive, The Deep End, WALL-E, Anvil! The Story of Anvil!, Casino Royale, Traffic, The Bourne Supremacy, Sideways, Elf, Eastern Promises, You Can Count on Me, Lost in Translation, Narc, The Hurt Locker, The Royal Tenenbaums, Borat.

That leaves me with
: The Wrestler, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Knocked Up, United 93, Mystic River, Catch Me if You Can, Birth, Million Dollar Baby, Zodiac, Brokeback Mountain. I'm going to give it some more thought but it looks like it might come down to Brokeback, Birth and Knocked Up. And if it comes down to those three, then Brokeback is probably my winner.

My final top ten here.

  2. That's interesting. A really good case can be made for that movie.

  3. Brokeback definitely definitely definitely...... although it's an intimate story the scale of the film is grandiose; it reminds me of David Lean, I don't know why.....
My own best list would also have In The Mood For Love, Before Sunset, The Lives of Others and Capturing the Friedmans and as mentioned before, The Beat My Heart Skipped.

  4. Agree Brokeback is the film of the decade. Feel the other top competitors are The Pianist, City of God, Spring Summer Fall Winter Spring and Water.
