The best of Pixar: The Incredibles
1. The Incredibles
2. WALL-E
3. Finding Nemo
4. Toy story 2
5. Monsters Inc
6. Up
7. Ratatouille
8. Toy Story
This was hard but I got there in the end. The Incredibles simply by covering the most bases: it is funny and smart and speedy and frequently all three at once. Its not the most lyrical Pixar movie — that award goes to WALL-E — but WALL-E suffers from ungainly construction in its second half. Nor is it the most moving — that goes to Finding Nemo, but Finding Nemo winds up with that awful sequence in the dental surgery. Toy Story 2 is one of the best sequels ever made, along with The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back. And Monsters Inc is underrated; its got the most perfectly worked-out conceit of all of them, but suffers from a bleh color scheme.

WALL-E is perfection and the only people who whine about the second half are people who are too pretentious to realize it's *okay* to like a film without finding something to whine about.
ReplyDeleteI think Kit Whitfield has it right when she declares that The Incredibles is rather like the fantasy of an aging jock - nerds might be earning more than you nowadays, but some day the world is going to recognize your specialness again, the way they did when you were young and golden...
