New favorite band from Texas: Midlake

Their excellent new album, The Courage of Others, led me back to 2006's The Trials of Van Occupanther, which is even better. Let no-one accuse me of leading the way here; I'm just happy to play catch up, but for those in the same boat they're from Denton Texas; they met at university and first started recording in 1999, and first got their big break in Europe (their first album was mastered at Abbey Road). They sound like a cross between Radiohead and The Mommas and the Pappas — or do I mean Fairport Convention? One of those psychedlic folk bands with lots of harmonies, anyway. I'm smitten.
